If you are looking for things to do in Cannon Falls Minnesota, check out this day trip itinerary!
Cannon Falls is known for its beautiful waterfall, hanging out at Lake Byllesby and picturesque bike paths. Furthermore, the town also has an adorable downtown area, a popular winery and a brewery.
My husband and I actually discovered this cute town after picking up an RV at Cruise America in Hastings for another trip. As we were driving through the town, I noticed the waterfall and the red brick downtown area and told myself that I had to come back here for a day trip!
So, I recently revisited for a fun day trip and here is a recap of all the fun things to do in Cannon Falls!
Things to do in Cannon Falls Minnesota
Where is Cannon Falls, Minnesota?
Cannon falls is only 45 minutes south of the Twin Cities, which makes it a perfect day trip destination. It’s also only 20 to 30 minutes away from the popular towns of Red Wing and Hastings. So, you can totally do a couple towns in a day or make it a staycation and do a weekend trip.
Later in this post, we will actually talk about a neat way that you can travel to Red Wing from Cannon Falls. So, be sure to follow along!
Get some doughnuts from Hi Quality Bakery
For some scrumptious doughnuts, be sure to check out Hi Quality Bakery. A bakery that incredibly has been in business for over 70 years! You can get all different kinds of baked bread, pies, doughnuts and cookies. A must stop!
Lady’s tip: Note that the bakery is only open until 1:00PM on Saturday and closed on Sunday. You can also order from Hi Quality online during business hours as well.
Grab some coffee or ice cream at CannonBelles
CannonBelles is the cutest shop that has the best of both worlds with coffee and ice cream. They also have sandwiches and wraps if you needed a quick bite to eat.
Another interesting thing they do is make and sell artisanal cheeses. Their cheese is also sold locally at the nearby Ferndale Market, Cannon River Winery, Tilion Brewery and even throughout Minnesota.
Check out the 5 Murals in Cannon Falls
The impressive winery mural is located along the side of Cannon River Winery. Grab your wine from the winery and sit along the patio on a nice summer day.
There are four more Murals in town to check out as well.
Here are the locations:
-
Cannon Falls Post Office – 17 Painted Pictures Mural
-
Cannon Falls City Parking lot -The Harvest Mural
-
Burkhardt Law Office– Stone Mill Mural
-
Brewster’s Bar and Grill– Limekiln Motorcycle Mural
Taste some wine at Cannon River Winery
After you see the beautiful mural on the side of the winery, be sure to go inside and try a tasting. My favorite is the Marquette (red wine) and I even bought a bottle. It’s so delicious.
The winery also has a fun food menu if you wanted to grab some lunch or dinner as well. Check out the Cannon River Winery website for more information.
Try a craft beer at Tilion Brewing Co
If you are more in the mood for a craft beer, try Tilion Brewing Co. The name Tilion is from the Icelandic word “Til iðn” (pronounced Til-lee-thon) which means “To craft”. Pretty cool name!
The brewery is located in the best part of town as the patio actually faces the waterfall. Perfect place to hang out with friends and watch the falls.
Visit the Little Cannon River Falls Waterfall
This waterfall is super neat as you can see it from the main road in town! Located in Minnieska park, you can take a walking path that will bring you close to the falls. Or, as stated earlier, you can view the falls either on the patio or the road next to the Tilion Brewing Co.
Hike or rent a bike and ride the Cannon Valley Trail
The Cannon Valley Trail connects the towns of Cannon Falls, Red Wing and Welch. A 19.7-mile hiking and bike trail that used to be a former railroad track and is now a beautiful, paved path. And a super fun way to travel between the towns. (Hence the fun way to get to Red Wing that I referred to earlier in this post.)
If you need to rent a bike, you can rent one at Cannon Falls Canoe & Bike Rental. Note that you may also need to purchase a wheel pass for certain parts of the trail. Check out the Cannon Valley Trail website for more information.

Try your luck at Treasure Island Resort & Casino
A cool place nearby is Treasure Island Resort & Casino. Located only 25 minutes away from Cannon Falls, you can gamble, relax at the spa, go bowling, or hang out in the indoor lazy river. Given that this is a resort as well, it’s also a neat place to stay if you wanted to do a little mini vacation.
